A cadet college is a special type of institution following the model of English public schools. The Pakistan government established the first cadet college in 1954 before the liberation of Bangladesh. In 1979, Rangpur Cadet College was established as the sixth Cadet College of Bangladesh. Without establishing a new infrastructure, the former Rangpur Residential Model High School was converted into a cadet college with some infrastructural modification. The land now owned by the college now is partially taken from the Carmichael College, a reputed educational college which stands beside it. The college started with its first 3 batches (called Intake in the terms of Cadet Colleges) in 7th, 8th and 9th grade in 1979. Cadet Hossain Sohel Shahnawaz was the first College Prefect of the CCR (who was assassinated on the February 25, 2009 in the BDR mutiny). Within very few days it started showing success in every field it's concerned with. From 2003, English was introduced as the medium of education as per the government decision to convert the Cadet Colleges into English Medium. Afterward the college was converted into English Medium with 28th intake as the first batch in English Medium. The 35th intake is now the latest batch entering the college in April, 2009 and the 30th intake is currently the most senior batch.

Rangpur Cadet College is Located in the district named Rangpur. The college is established in a sound and quiet environment outside the main city in a suburban area. It’s 5 km south to the main town, and situated beside the Dhaka-Rangpur highway. The surrounding green environment has a nice panoramic view. Long trees made the place more attractive. . There is a canal which passing through the campus. The sun set scene is very appealing. Students enjoy the environment much. Far away from the busy city life all get an opportunity to think and build themselves as the nation builders of tomorrow. The infrastructure is very organized. this is one of the most interesting and knowledgeable clubs. Here cadets learn about our country's geography all along with the whole world. This club has many valuable collections like various types of soil, rock and books on Earth.which really helps cadets to enrich their knowledge.

Hiking Club :

This club is run by college adjutant and medical officer gradually. In this club cadet usually roam around the college area to make it clean and greeny.

Biology Club :

This club is basically formed by the cadets who are interested in Biology and has a big collection of reptiles,insects and even a dolphin .

Computer Club :

The members of this club learn initial things of computer handling.In this club there are few computers provided by the college authority.

First Aid Club :

This club is run by college medical officer. He tries to make cadets conscious about how to maintain sound health and hygiene. It provides training on first aid practically.

Wood Work Club :

This club makes the cadets conscious about how to maintain sound health and hygiene. It provides training on first aid practically.

Music Club :

The member of this club practise music under the guidance of a music teacher.Basically they practise Tagor songs, nazrul songs, classic song as well as Band music.

General Knowledge and Current Affairs Club :

In this club cadets can learn general knowledge and they got the idea what's happening inside the world.

Arts and Crafts Club :

The objective of this club is to nourish and develop cadet's latent creative talents in paintings.

Cadets are enrolled in the seventh grade. They continue their study and training for six years. The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) is the final examination to complete the graduation. Each class generally has fifty students. The Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations are administered under direct control of the Board of Education of Barisal Division.

This college has a highly qualified faculty members.

The teaching medium is ENGLISH.

Cadets passed out from a Cadet College feel deeply for his or her alma mater. From this aspiration, ex-cadets of almost every cadet college have been able to form alumni associations called ex-cadets associations.
